They're Not Our Dogs Anymore: Part 1

I have always been a fan of the game Epic:Armageddon.  The scope feels much more appropriate for the setting than its 28mm counterpart.  Unfortunately, getting miniatures and terrain can be difficult.

3D printing is starting to only now hit a threshold where the print quality is good enough for miniature games, while maintaining a hobbyist price point.  I picked up a resin printer for miniatures and an FDM printer for terrain and miniature bases. Now I could have all the Epic miniatures I wanted at the push of a button, literally!

The Cloverdale Forgeworld

By the time I had the basics figured out, my mind started considering all the possibilities, and to be honest, it was pretty overwhelming for awhile.  However, one project stood out, what about a Burning of Prospero themed board and corresponding armies?

The armies would be interesting to put together, as there were a lot of represented factions to provide a lot of diversity.  The defenders had The Thousand Sons space marine legion, Spireguard militia, Zhao Arkhad mechanicum, and the mighty titans of Legio Xestobiax.  The censure force was composed of the Vylka Fenryka space marine legion, Legio Custodes, Sisters of Silence, Legio Mortis titans, and even some Sons of Horus space marines doing nefarious things in the background.

Building the board itself would comprise of a completely different challenge.  The capitol city of Prospero, Tizca was pretty unique, sporting a high tech space Eqypt theme.  The first order of business was to gather some inspiration and reference material:

Why are the Wolves leaving???

Thingiverse.com is a great source of publicly created models to download and print.  I was able to find a few pieces that fit the theme, but it was becoming clear to me that I would likely need to design a lot of my own.

Techy Pyramids hot off the press
In progress Thousand Sons

I really like the white marble look as well as the crisscrossing bridges and walkways.  I have a few terrain prints and a couple of Thousand Sons test models and I'm happy with the progress so far.

The next step will be to plan the board in a little more detail.  I think I want the board to be half done in dense pyramids and other urban features, while the other half will spill out into more open terrain like the courtyards you see in some of the reference pictures.

Oh, and I'll probably have to learn how to use Blender.
